Hiring a car in Antalya is not essential for every holiday. If you are staying in one central resort and already have transfers, other transport may be enough. A rental car becomes more useful when your hotel is away from the airport, you are travelling with children or several bags, or you want to combine places such as Side, Kemer and Kaş on your own timetable.
Start with the journeys you will actually make, not with the lowest headline rate. For short city trips, a small car may be the simplest choice. Families should allow space for a child seat, pushchair and every suitcase. For longer coastal routes, consider automatic or manual transmission, driving comfort and luggage capacity together. You can compare the current vehicle groups before requesting a quote.
Booking earlier for peak summer dates can improve the availability of the vehicle group you need, but it does not necessarily guarantee a particular make or model. Read any “or similar” wording, the cancellation terms and the confirmed group. For airport delivery, provide the correct flight number, arrival terminal and a mobile number that will work in Türkiye. Tell the rental team promptly if the flight schedule changes.
Bring your valid driving licence and passport. Turkish rules about how long a visitor may drive on a foreign licence are separate from a rental company’s minimum age and licence-holding requirements. Depending on the issuing country and alphabet, a translation or International Driving Permit may be requested, so confirm this before departure. Review the current rental terms and keep the written reservation confirmation with you.
Compare quotations using identical dates, times, vehicle groups and pickup/return locations. The final cost may change when protection, optional equipment or location services are added. Check:
A deposit or card hold is not the same as the excess you may be responsible for after damage. Equally, a rental advertised without a deposit does not automatically mean every kind of damage is covered. Read which parts and events are excluded, the documents required after an incident and whether tyres, glass, keys, misfuelling or the underside are treated separately. Compare the protection package summary with your booking confirmation and rental agreement. Ask for written clarification before pickup if the documents do not match.
Antalya Airport has more than one terminal, so “airport pickup” alone may not identify the meeting point. Share your flight code and terminal, then keep the final instructions issued for the Antalya Airport pickup location. For hotel delivery, supply the full property name, address and an accessible entrance. Changes to the time or place may depend on vehicle availability and the operating plan.
Check the driver name, dates, return location, vehicle group, recorded mileage and fuel level on the agreement. Inspect the bodywork, windows, wheels, tyres and interior in good light. Make sure every existing mark appears on the handover record. A short set of photographs can cover all four sides, the dashboard mileage and fuel gauge. Test the child seat fitting, boot operation and essential controls before leaving.
Coastal sections of the D400 can be busy in summer. Curves, slower vehicles and changing conditions on mountain and coastal roads make app estimates less reliable, so allow time for breaks and traffic. Research parking before entering central Antalya or a popular beach area, and never leave the car where it blocks a narrow route.
If your itinerary uses toll roads or bridges, ask how the vehicle’s electronic toll account is handled and when charges are collected. Do not assume tolls, parking or traffic penalties are included in the hire price. For a multi-stop holiday, shorter day routes are usually more realistic than trying to cover every destination in one drive.
Request a different return point when booking. A one-way return may depend on availability and operational approval, and a location fee may apply. Before return, follow the agreed fuel policy, remove personal items and paired-phone data, and allow extra time for traffic. If nobody will inspect the car with you, ask in advance how to leave the key and obtain proof of return.
Provide the flight number when booking and send any change as early as possible. Check the written confirmation for waiting and out-of-hours arrangements.
Reservations normally confirm a group. If the offer says “or similar”, confirm the features that matter to you, such as transmission, seats and boot capacity.
Only drivers added to the agreement and accepted with the required documents should drive. Check any fee and age conditions before pickup.
