Antalya is not one continuous resort strip. Kaleiçi and the museum belong to a compact city day; Perge, Aspendos and Side lead east; Phaselis and Çıralı follow the western coast; Termessos climbs into the mountains. Enter the old quarter around Hadrian’s Gate, then walk the lanes towards the Yivli Minare area and harbour viewpoints. Kaleiçi is better explored on foot than by repeatedly moving a car through narrow streets. Park once in an authorised area or use public transport. Continue to Antalya Museum: viewing sculpture and finds from Perge and neighbouring sites before the archaeology day gives the landscape much more context. Museum and archaeological-site hours can change, so consult the current Ministry of Culture and Tourism notice instead of relying on an old timetable.
Finish with a waterfront walk and, when sea conditions suit you, beach time at Konyaaltı. Lara lies on the other side of the city; choose the coast that matches your accommodation rather than crossing Antalya simply to tick off two beaches. A hire car is optional for this city day.
Perge is one of the closest major ancient cities to central Antalya. Walk the colonnaded street and examine the agora, baths, fountains and towers; follow current site signs for sections of the theatre and stadium. Uneven stone, direct sun and limited shade make grippy shoes, water and sun protection essential. Aspendos is celebrated for its well-preserved Roman theatre. If access and time allow, also look beyond the theatre towards the upper-city remains and historic bridge. All three stops make a long day; families, keen history travellers and summer visitors may prefer Perge-Aspendos first and Side on a separate coast day. Phaselis sits among pine and cedar on the western Antalya coast, where ancient harbours, a main street and the shoreline can be experienced on one visit. Leave the car in the designated area and explore on foot. Shade does not remove the need for water or sun protection in summer. Swimming access, fire precautions and conservation work can change entry arrangements, so check the current official notice.
If Çıralı and Olympos are priorities, add another day instead of reducing Phaselis to a rushed stop. Çıralı offers a long coastal walk, while Olympos needs time for its archaeological area. A Mount Chimaera/Yanartaş walk requires suitable footwear, a light after dark and a fresh check of weather, ground and fire restrictions.
Termessos is unlike the coastal sites. From the parking area, rocky and sloping paths climb through the mountain landscape towards the theatre and other ruins. Treat it as a hike, not a short museum visit. Carry enough water, use sturdy footwear and take layers that match the season. Travellers with limited mobility, very young children or concerns about heat and uneven terrain may find Perge a more manageable alternative.
Before leaving, recheck the official access notice, the Turkish State Meteorological Service forecast and any forest-fire restrictions. Stay on marked paths and leave enough daylight for the return rather than racing a closing time.
Long-term official climate data describes Antalya’s hot, dry summers and milder, wetter winters. In July and August, begin exposed sites such as Perge early, and reserve the middle of the day for a museum or coastal break. Spring and autumn often feel better for archaeological walks, but rain, wind, sea state and fire risk can still change the day. Official airport information lists municipal bus, tram, taxi, Havaş and rental options between Antalya Airport and the city; check current services on your travel date. When comparing available vehicle groups, a compact car suits two travellers on paved city and coast routes; families should measure luggage space after child seats and pushchairs are included. An SUV badge does not grant off-road permission. Published Enterprise, SIXT and Avis terms demonstrate that driver age, licence history, payment card, deposit, mileage and additional-driver rules vary by supplier and car group. Compare the total with the rental terms, mileage and fuel policy, and protection options, not the day rate alone.

Not for a city-only visit. Kaleiçi, the harbour and central coast work with walking and public transport. A car is more useful when independent days include Perge-Aspendos, Phaselis and Termessos in different directions.
It is possible with an early start and short visits, but heat, traffic and genuine interest in the sites make it a demanding day. Splitting Side into a second coast day is often more enjoyable.
Four days cover the city, eastern archaeology, western coast and Termessos at a sensible pace. Kaş, Demre, Olympos-Çıralı or Alanya require additional days or another base.
